Buyers often treat PP and PE rope as interchangeable — same price shelf, both float, both synthetic. They are not interchangeable, and the differences map cleanly onto specific jobs.

How to choose
Choose PP when strength-per-dollar and availability matter most: packing, truck ropes, agriculture, marine utility, mooring in large diameters. PP is the volume fiber — every construction and diameter exists in it. See PP 3 strand twisted rope and polypropylene material page.
Choose PE when the rope is handled constantly or works in the cold: fishing and aquaculture utility lines, net twine, cold-climate farm rope. Choose a PP/PE blend when the program is price-led but you want to soften handling — common for retail utility rope. See PE/PP mixed utility rope.
The mistake to avoid
Do not specify only “PP rope” or “PE rope”. Yarn form (split film, monofilament, multifilament) and construction change the product as much as the fiber does. A PP split film twine and a PP multifilament braided rope share a polymer and almost nothing else. Specify fiber + yarn form + construction + diameter, as covered in how to specify rope for an RFQ.
